Most overplayed songs for 1993 and 1994

Most overplayed song for 1993
"Informer" Snow
Yo Snow man, they said you were a one hit wonder. Oh wait. I saw a headstone on TV once that said "Snow: We barely knew you". By 1993 I REALLY quit listening to the radio and I have to admit that I didn't actually hear this song all that much. But I did hear people talk about it alot and many people had the single or album.

Honorable mentions
"I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" Meat Loaf
So Meat Loaf did a sequal to his 70's album and to my surprise they overplayed it. And yes I did have this one and played it a lot myself. I enjoyed the rock opera style of MeatLoaf.

"Seven" Prince & The New Power Generation
I can remember people trying to figure out what this song meant. And again, I think this is another one of those groups that was overplayed, but I'm going to mention this one song specifically.

"Whoomp! (There It Is)" Tag Team
A close second for 1993. There is at least one person I can think of who would make fun of me for mentioning this song. I had the single and used to listen to it in my car while cruising Princeton and it was one of the few that made my factory stereo actually shake a little. The trouble was it distored so much.

Lots of gems in 1994 and believe me it was hard to pick one!
Most overplayed song for 1994
"Waterfalls" TLC
I had to get this song out the other day to play it. I mentioned that I saw two rainbows on Sept 4, 2008 and I think each time this song came in my head. Mainly for the line "I seen a rainbow yesterday But too many storms have come and gone". Seems like this one was still being played on MTV in the summer of 1995 because I can remember watching it at Purdue that first summer I was there. I put it in 1994 because I saved a special song for 1995. So I'm blaming MTV for this one.

Honorable mentions
"Black Hole Sun" Soundgarden
I know I've mentioned this one before. I heard it about everywhere I went. I realize now that I've gotten off track on how I wanted to do this project. I wanted to only list the songs that were played so much you hate them now, but I can't say that for this one.

"Amazing", "Cryin'", "Crazy", and "Livin' On The Edge" Aerosmith
93 or 94. But I can say that for these four. Actually I say that for about any Aerosmith song, which is no fault of their's. I also think MTV overdid it because of Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone being in some of the videos. Though nothing compares to the Aerosmith pick I made for 2001 coming up soon.

"No Rain" Blind Melon
93 or 94. Now don't get me wrong, this is a good song and I always enjoyed it. I have a hard time believing that this song would have been played as much as it did were it not for Shannon Hoon. My sympathies to Mr Hoon's family and friends (even Axl), but I just think this one was played way too many times.

"Are You Gonna Go My Way" Lenny Kravitz
93 or 94. I just heard this one on the radio the other day! I was about to say that it seems like this was Lenny's breakout hit and it almost typecasted him. But then I remembered the song "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over". Luckily he's had many more hits since then. But this one had much play on MTV, therefore making my list.

"The Sign" Ace of Base
That fresh new group out of Sweden that just happens to look a lot like ABBA. I'm sorry, this song was EVERYWHERE. And that's all I have to say about that.

"Baby, I Love Your Way" Big Mountain
A reggae remake the Peter Frampton song. Though some may not remember this one, I think it was overplayed because it was what I call a radio cross-over hit. It was played by a wide variety of radio stations (ie different stations in the same market that played different types of music). I also heard it playing a lot in the dorms in college from those guys who had neon posters of Bob Marley and black lights in their rooms.

"All I Wanna Do" Sheryl Crow
Another reviewer gave this one the title for 1994. So I'm going to put it as a mention because I sure remember how tired of it I got. Course this one may be because of my dislike of Sheryl Crow.

"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" Crash Test Dummies
I know that's not actually the title, but you know the one I'm talking about. I actually didn't hear this one all that much, but I know it was played a lot. I know that the CTDs call this song "a joke", but it certainly proves you don't need lyrics to have a hit song.

"On Bended Knee" Boyz II Men
Baby, I'm sorry, Please forgive me for all the wrong I've done. Please come back home girl. I know you put all your trust in me, I'm sorry I let you down. Please forgive me.
Your's Truely,
Ike Turner
I told you I had more BoyzIIMen! A critic I found online said "This is a much more tolerable song, though, than "I'll Make Love to You," and won't give you nightmares afterward, but these Boyz are really starting to get on my nervz." I don't know how many timez I've heard someone say they are sick of hearing this song.
"I’ll never walk again, until you come back to me, I’m down on bended knee"

I still love that song "Seven"!

Also, I saw Crash Test Dummies in a small club in Nashville right as that single was breaking. That band was pretty stinking good live!
