Most overplayed songs for 1995, 1996, and 1997

Most overplayed songs for 1995
"Run-Around" Blues Traveler
I actually heard that MTV called these guys "the next Greatful Dead". And since I've seen this video and subsequent live performances way more times than I wanted to, I give them the title this year.

Honorable mentions
"Bullet With Butterfly Wings" The Smashing Pumpkins
Despite all my rage I am still just an overplayed song. The more popular radio station in Lafayette, IN played this song every single morning while it was popular. This one is proof that I can't find any really good examples for 1995.

"You Oughta Know" Alanis Morissette
Ok, I'm sorry, but ANYTHING by Alanis Morissette is overplayed as far as I'm concerned. They say "Well-behaved women rarely make history" and I think she has taken that a little too seriously. Poorly-behaved women rarely make good music, you oughta know. And once again, MTV overexposed her and that's why she makes the list for 1995. You you you oughta know.

Most overplayed songs for 1996
"Macarana" Los del Rio
Indisputable. This one was destined to be overplayed. Since it had it's own dance, it was played at clubs, beach parties, etc. Not to mention the radio and MTV. So this thing was EVERYWHERE. And by the time it's "15" minutes were up, who can say they weren't tired of it?

Honorable mentions
"Crossroads" Bone Thugs-n-Harmony
Now I know I'm stepping on someone's toes putting this one up. I think part of it's overplay is that they used the ghost of Eazy-E in their video. So naturally MTV hyped it. (I don't think real highly of MTV, have you noticed that?)

Most overplayed songs for 1997
"MMMM Bop" Hanson
Indisputable. Whatever happened to Hanson anyway? Maybe the Crash Test Dummies need to sue for some kind of royalties on this one because of the whole "mmmm" thing. I read articles about this group and they interviewed a fan who basically liked this group solely for this song. It's signs like that where you know it's going to be overplayed and "hated" later on.

Honorable mentions
"Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba
I think I've mentioned this one before too. I can say this is one I was never a big fan of. These days you can find dozens of used copies of these guy's album in used CD stores. There was an episode of Family Guy where they did a spoof of Willy Wonka and instead of Oompa Loompas they had "Chumba Wumbas".

"Wannabe" Spice Girls
The Spice Girls' debut song and video. Oh joy. Released in 1996 in the UK, it was a hit in the US in 1997. And being a best seller, it can't help being overplayed.

"Fly" Sugar Ray
I probably shouldn't include this but you have to admit you've heard it a few times. I still catch it frequently on the radio. (But Ed! But Ed! You said you don't listen to the radio anymore!?! While at work, I don't have a choice since it's played over the PA.)
