Most overplayed songs for 1989 and 1990

These are only my opinions. Now remember: I said these songs were OVERPLAYED, I didn't say they weren't good songs (unless otherwise stated). How did I pick these? Well, since I didn't listen to the radio much during this period of time, I base this on the songs that I heard the most when a radio was on near me. Some you just couldn't avoid hearing. I'm also critical of anything that MTV overpromotes as well.

Most overplayed songs for 1989
Why 1989? Just so I could mention my top pick:
"Hangin' Tough" New Kids on the Block
I'm trying my best not to specifically go after bubblegum pop songs, but I think I can get away with it in this case. There are so many songs that were popular at the time and we tend to "hate" them now, but that is not why I picked this one for 1989. It just really was over played.

Honorable mentions
Anything by Milli Vanilli
There were about three or so songs from their album and they were played all over the place. And again, I am not picking on Milli Vanilli because of the whole lip synching thing. You'll catch me listening to them once in a while.

"We Didn't Start the Fire" Billy Joel
Dylan, Berlin, bay of pigs invasion. Yeah, I heard this one about a million times too, but New Kids get the title for this year.

Most overplayed songs for 1990
"Ice Ice Baby" Vanilla Ice
This is one of those "goes without saying" songs I think. There's a few others like this in the
list that are really indisputable. Where were you when you first heard this song? I don't remember, but I did see him on Saturday Night Live and Jim Carey made fun of him on In Living Color. This one is definately one that people heard so many times they eventually hated it. You'll still hear me playing it once in a while in my truck "with the bass kicked in, the vegas are pumpin". NOT! I have Rockford-Fosgate's thank you very much. I have a flair on my "Pieces of Flair" board that is a picture of a stop sign and below it it says "collaborate and listen".

Honorable mentions
"Escapade" Janet Jackson
I always sing this as "Ice Capades". Try it. "Come on baby, let's get away. Let me take you to the Ice Capades." I just don't think this was that great of a song, but I heard it all the time.

"Friends In Low Places" Garth Brooks
This one is proof I am not descriminating. Those who know me, know of my affection for
Garth and therefore it pains me to have to say that one of his songs is overplayed. But considering that this song was on both the pop charts and country, you know it was destined to be overplayed. Sorry Garth.

"Love Shack" The B-52's
Love Shack BABY! Can be 89 or 90. This one was all over the place too. Makes a good karaoke song doesn't it? *wink*wink*

"Opposites Attract" Paula Abdul
Overplayed can be said for just about any Paula Abdul song.

"U Can't Touch This" M.C. Hammer
This song made this year a tough choice. I had it narrowed down between this song and Vanilla Ice and I just had to go with Vanilla. I think Hammer demands a little more respect.
